Parks, Facilities, and Beautification
March 2, 2009
Committee members Linda Mislosky and I, Wendy Gillund, was present. Also present were; John Bourisseau, Chief Pitts, and a special guest Art Kvacek.
Art Kvacek is a relative of Ken Kvacek and is very interested in the McFarland Homestead. He brings with him a tremendous Boy Scouts of America background and potential support. Mr. Kvacek shared with us pictures and maps of the original Boy Scout camp. The McFarland home was the ranger's location. We discussed a potential partnership with the Boy Scouts and their museum to reestablish the McFarland Historical Site.
First steps are to determine stabilizing the Homestead and pursuing funds.
Potential dates discussed for activities in the park are:
Changing the Picnic to July 11 and making it a “history of Bentleyville” event.
Chief Pitts suggested a “Safety Fair” he would organize on July 18th
We may include a raffle as a fundraiser for the McFarland Homestead.
We are checking on details and proper procedures with Finance.
Linda Mislosky suggested conducting a “Flea market” on August 1st.
Other ideas shared were clam bake and storytelling in October.
Next meeting will be held April 6, 2009
