Bentleyville residents are invited to stop by the Cleveland Botanical Garden to enjoy its delightful GLOW holiday event which runs through December and ends on January 4th. Among the highlights of this celebration are beautiful holiday trees decorated by local groups including The Garden Club of Bentleyville.
The Garden Club’s holiday tree entry has a Bentleyville theme and is decorated with blue heron nests and ornaments, local teasel (better known as thistle), and replica signs from an old business, the Deerlick Oil Stone company of Chagrin Falls, which quarried stone in Bentleyville.
Next year these decorations will be used on the holiday tree here at Village Hall together with other historical items to celebrate our heritage. If you have any historical items or photographs from Bentleyville’s earlier days, the Garden Club would appreciate it if they (or copies) could be used to enrich the display on the tree.
For more information on The Garden Club of Bentleyville, you can visit them at their next meeting on January 21at Village Hall at 9am; the program will include a presentation on creating landscape screens by Mike Blakeman of Bremec Greenhouses and Nursery. Or give President Bonnie Borman Goldston a call (440-247-0765).
And speaking of blue herons, now is a good time to take a drive past the Bentleyville rookery because the leaves have fallen. As you drive south down Chagrin River Road away from Village Hall, when you get about to the double mailboxes 6455 and 6435 look at the tops of the sycamores over by the river and you will see many, many big blowsy-looking heron nests!
